The Nigerian government has given the green light to raise salaries for civil servants on the remaining six consolidated pay scales by 25% to 35%.
The salary increase applies to the following consolidated salary structures: the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).
It's worth noting that those in the tertiary education and health sectors have already received their salary increases, which included the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) and the Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) for universities.
Polytechnics and Colleges of Education received their salary increases, which encompassed the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) and the Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS).
The health sector also saw benefits through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
According to a statement signed by Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC), the salary increases will be effective from January 1st, 2024.
The Federal Government has additionally sanctioned pension increases ranging from 20% to 28% for pensioners under the Defined Benefits Scheme linked to the aforementioned six consolidated salary structures, starting from January 1st, 2024.
