The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a warning predicting heavy rainfall and the potential for flooding across 15 states between September 24 and 28, 2024. The National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre from the Federal Ministry of Environment highlighted 35 locations at risk.
The affected states include:
- **Delta State**: Abraka, Agbor, Okpo-Krika, Umukwata, Umugboma, Aboh
- **Edo State**: Ekpoma, Auchi, Irrua, Ilushi, Sabongidda-Ora, Uromi
- **Taraba State**: Gembu
- **Kwara State**: Ilorin
- **Kaduna State**: Kauru
- **Kebbi State**: Ribah
- **Zamfara State**: Majara
- **Niger State**: Mashegu, Kontagora, Lapai, Rijau, Sarkin-Pawa
- **Katsina State**: Bindawa, Daura, Funtua, Bakori
- **Nasarawa State**: Ado, Aso, Mararaba
- **Adamawa State**: Demsa
- **Jigawa State**: Gwaram
- **Kogi State**: Ibaji
- **Kano State**: Kunchi, Sumaila
- **Gombe State**: Nafada
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called for preparedness and advised the Rivers State Government to build emergency shelters for internally displaced persons (IDPs). In addition, there is concern over flooding due to water releases from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon, affecting several states, including Adamawa, Anambra, Bayelsa, Benue, and Rivers.
