Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has refuted claims regarding his involvement in securing the release of popular cross-dresser, Bobrisky, from prison. The controversy arose after a leaked voice recording, allegedly of Bobrisky, suggested that Falz, alongside his father, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had a hand in dropping money laundering charges against the social media personality.Bobrisky had previously been sentenced to three months in prison after pleading guilty to naira mutilation charges following his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was released on August 5, 2024, after serving his time.On September 24, 2024, popular activist and social critic, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, leaked an alleged voice recording of Bobrisky. In the audio, Bobrisky purportedly claimed that Falz and his father played a crucial role in persuading the EFCC to drop the money laundering charges against him. This revelation quickly sparked outrage, leading Falz to issue a public denial through his legal representatives, Falana & Falana’s Chambers. In a statement, Falz clarified that he had never initiated any communication with Bobrisky while the cross-dresser was incarcerated. He confirmed that Bobrisky did reach out to him, but only to request financial assistance. According to Falz, Bobrisky sought N3 million to pay certain officials to ensure he could stay in the VIP section of the Correctional Centre. The denial letter, which has since gone viral on social media, also addressed the actions of VeryDarkMan. Falz accused the activist of making careless and unverified statements, filled with multiple allegations, without making any effort to contact him for clarification.
