Former Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has emphasized the urgent need for President Bola Tinubu's administration to address Nigeria's economic challenges. Speaking at the 2024 Women in Management, Business, and Public Service (WIMBIZ) conference, Osinbajo highlighted the strain of rising living costs on millions of Nigerians, calling for social welfare programs to provide relief.
He expressed particular concern for children affected by food price increases, underscoring the necessity of social safety nets to support basic needs. Osinbajo called for immediate government action to address the costs of essentials, including food, transportation, and housing.
Additionally, he pointed out the educational barriers faced by women, especially in northern Nigeria, where illiteracy affects over 67% of women. He warned that the country's development depends on accessible education and economic empowerment for all, with a focus on women.
Investing in education and fostering economic opportunities, Osinbajo argued, is essential to achieving a fairer and more prosperous Nigeria. His call comes amid growing concerns about the socioeconomic hardships faced by Nigerians and signals a push for impactful reforms to enhance the country’s welfare and progress.
