Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has announced the death of his Special Assistant, Ndifreke Saviour Mark, who reportedly collapsed and died in an Abuja hotel.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at the Mildy Lodge and Apartments in the Garki area of Abuja.
In a statement released by Fani-Kayode on Sunday, October 20, 2024, the former minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Mark, 52, who had worked with him for over three decades.
According to Fani-Kayode, Mark left home early on the morning of his death to attend morning Mass at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Asokoro before proceeding to the hotel.
It was there, in the company of an individual, that Mark allegedly collapsed and died.
Fani-Kayode shared that Mark was rushed to Asokoro District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The individual who was with Mark at the time of his death, as well as the hotel receptionist, has been taken into police custody for questioning.
Fani-Kayode emphasized that he has called for a full investigation and an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The ex-minister recounted his close relationship with Mark, describing him as a loyal and trusted aide who was like a son to him.
He also met with Mark’s family, including his wife, Barrister Patience Ndifreke-Mark, and expressed his commitment to supporting them through this difficult time.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Mark’s death, and the hotel room he stayed in remains sealed. The hotel's manager and owner have also been questioned by authorities.
Fani-Kayode concluded his tribute by honoring Mark’s character, describing him as a compassionate and kind individual, and thanked those who have supported the family during their time of mourning.
