Funke Akindele’s latest movie, Everybody Loves Jennifer (ELJ), has achieved a historic milestone in Nollywood, earning ₦45.2 million on its first day in cinemas.
According to the Nigerian Box Office (NBO), the film also recorded over 9,000 admissions, setting a new standard for opening day performances in the industry.
This achievement surpasses Akindele’s previous hit, A Tribe Called Judah (ATCJ), which drew 8,870 viewers on its debut.
Remarkably, the ELJ figures do not include revenue from advanced screenings, further highlighting its massive success.
“Everybody Loves Jennifer broke box office records yesterday,” NBO announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) account. “It had the biggest opening day for a Nollywood film with ₦45.2M, attracting 9,409 admissions. This feat was accomplished despite not screening at Genesis Cinemas and missing part of the day at Silverbird Cinemas.”
Starring a stellar cast that includes Nancy Isime, Bisola Aiyeola, and Stan Nze, the film has already been praised as a major triumph.
Akindele, known for her groundbreaking contributions to Nollywood, continues to redefine success in the industry.
With Everybody Loves Jennifer, she solidifies her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished filmmakers.
