An online debate has erupted following a young mother's confrontation with her mother-in-law over giving her 5-month-old baby sachet water.
The mother, who shared her story anonymously with social media influencer @Folarin, explained that she discovered the incident while reviewing CCTV footage from her home after work.
The footage allegedly showed her mother-in-law offering a sip of water from a sachet to the infant.
Shocked and upset, the mother confronted her mother-in-law, expressing her disapproval and warning her to avoid handling the child.
However, this reaction has sparked tension within the family.
Her husband, siding with his mother, expressed anger over the incident and has since refused to eat, leaving the young woman feeling isolated and uncertain about her actions.
Seeking clarity, she wrote:
“Hi. Pls doctors here, is it right for a baby to start taking water at 5 months old? I went to work yesterday and noticed on my CCTV that my mother-in-law was giving my daughter pure water she was drinking. I was furious and, in anger, insulted her and told her that she shouldn’t carry my child again. Now my hubby is mad at me and has refused to eat.”
The post has sparked widespread reactions online, with opinions sharply divided.
While some supported the mother’s protective approach, others criticized her for allegedly overreacting and disrespecting her mother-in-law.
One commenter, @Rhashydah, wrote:
“My dear, you are mad as well. All of a sudden you all want to start forming unnecessary woke 😏 all in the name of what exactly 🤷🏽♀️. The same set of parents took care of us with what they had access to and we didn’t die; their parents did the same as well. Insulting her is uncalled for.”
Another user, @TadyJerry, added:
“You dey craze. Even if she was wrong, insulting her shows how weak your husband is. Dem no born you well make you insult my mama for this kind error. You go regret am. NONSENSE.”
The ongoing debate highlights generational differences in parenting methods and the complexities of maintaining family harmony in modern households.
