In a recent event held at the National Orientation Agency (NOA) office in Osogbo, Osun State, parents were reminded of the importance of registering their children for birth certificates. Organized in collaboration with UNICEF and the National Population Commission (NPC), the initiative focuses on the free registration of children aged 0-5 years.
The NOA State Director, Bola Morgan, highlighted that birth registration is not just a procedural formality, but a fundamental right every child is entitled to. Through this initiative, children are provided with a National Identification Number (NIN) at no cost, emphasizing the crucial role of birth registration in securing their future.
It is the key to unlocking access to basic services such as education and healthcare, which are essential for a child’s development and future,” she stated. Morgan also emphasized that birth registration ensures a child’s legal recognition, which is vital in protecting them from abuse, exploitation, and statelessness.
Beyond individual benefits, Morgan pointed out that accurate birth registration is essential for national development. By having precise data on the number of children, the government can plan effectively for sectors like education, healthcare, and public services, she explained.
Gbenga Osungbohun, a representative from the NPC, reiterated the importance of this responsibility. He encouraged parents to take advantage of the ongoing free registration to ensure their children are documented. He added that proper documentation is a basic duty owed to children, and it plays a key role in securing their future opportunities.
This initiative serves as a reminder that registering a child’s birth is more than just a legal requirement—it is a crucial step in ensuring every child is given a fair chance to thrive. By registering their children, parents are not only fulfilling a legal obligation but are also safeguarding their children’s rights and opening doors to vital services that will shape their futures.
Don’t miss this opportunity—register your child today and give them the foundation they need for a brighter tomorrow.
