The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has confirmed that Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) officials involved in the alleged provision of a private apartment for Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, during his jail term, will face strict consequences. Bobrisky had been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a federal high court in Lagos for naira abuse. The scandal, which has attracted significant media attention, accuses correctional officers of arranging special accommodations for the cross-dresser instead of placing him in a prison cell.
Tunji-Ojo assured the public during a media briefing that a high-level panel is investigating the matter and promised that any officer found culpable would be sanctioned. He emphasized that no individual involved in the controversy will be spared from disciplinary actions.
Additionally, Tunji-Ojo announced forthcoming reforms, including an Automated Passport Application system to improve passport services for Nigerians in the diaspora, particularly in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, starting in October.
