Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary kicked off on a hopeful note with an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja. The event brought together government officials, dignitaries, and religious leaders to reflect on the nation’s journey and aspirations for a brighter future.Leading the government’s delegation was the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who was joined by notable figures, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and the Service Chiefs. In his address, Akume conveyed a message of optimism for Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the country is on a path toward becoming the most successful and prosperous nation in Africa.During the service, Akume shared his vision, stating, “There is hope. I have a dream too, that this country, under Asiwaju, will become the most blessed, most successful, and prosperous in Africa and the world.” His remarks echoed the sentiments of Most Rev. Michael Akinwale, Archbishop of Abuja and a member of the Methodist Church of Nigeria. In his sermon, Akinwale articulated a dream for Nigeria’s resurgence, envisioning a future where the nation is a leader in industrialization and prosperity. He passionately declared, “I have a dream that Nigeria will rise again. I have a dream that all Nigerians will dwell in plenty.”Senate President Akpabio also addressed the congregation, urging Nigerians to remain patient and hopeful amidst the challenges facing the nation. He emphasized that the journey to prosperity is just beginning, encouraging unity and resilience. “As we celebrate today, let us also acknowledge the challenges we face. Yes, the road ahead may be bumpy; yes, there will be setbacks; but together, united in our faith and love for Nigeria, we will prevail,” he stated.In a call for national unity, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu urged Nigerians to embrace inclusive economic development for the greater good of the nation. His message underscored the importance of collaboration in overcoming obstacles and achieving collective goals.
