President Bola Tinubu is under increasing pressure from civil society group Mandate Protection Vanguard (MPV) to appoint former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and human rights activist Shehu Sani to his cabinet. MPV, through its coordinator Gbenga Soloki, argues that these figures bring the experience and credibility necessary to help address Nigeria’s current economic and social challenges.
El-Rufai, known for his pragmatic governance and reformist style, is credited with infrastructure improvements and tackling insecurity in Kaduna. Sani, a former senator and civil rights advocate, has been a consistent voice for social justice and democracy. MPV believes their inclusion would enhance the government’s ability to address the concerns of ordinary Nigerians while bolstering leadership strength in the federal cabinet.
The group also recommended the reappointment of Professor Barth Nnaji, a former Minister of Power, citing his expertise in reforming Nigeria’s electricity sector during his tenure. MPV's call reflects growing demands for more technocrats and experienced professionals in Tinubu’s administration, especially given the country’s economic difficulties.
