The Port Harcourt Refinery in Nigeria has resumed production, processing crude oil at 60% of its capacity. This translates to 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The refinery, owned by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), has a total capacity of 250,000 barrels per day. The announcement was made by NNPC spokesperson Olufemi Soneye on November 26, 2024.
This development marks a significant milestone in Nigeria's efforts to enhance domestic refining capacity, reduce dependency on imported petroleum products, and address fuel supply challenges in the country. The refinery's operation is expected to positively impact Nigeria's economy, including reducing foreign exchange spent on fuel imports and improving energy security.
