Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has made a bold statement, daring the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to order his shooting as tensions rise ahead of the local government elections in the state. This came after an alleged attempt by police to seal off the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) premises. The police had earlier cited a Federal High Court ruling to withdraw security personnel from the election, which is scheduled for Saturday.
Governor Fubara criticized the IGP for what he claims is partisan behavior, suggesting that the police chief's actions were influenced by loyalty to the FCT Minister. Despite the withdrawal of police security, the governor is determined to proceed with the election, citing a Supreme Court ruling that validates his stance.
Fubara emphasized his commitment to ensuring the election holds, even without police protection, and declared that winners will be sworn in following the results. His remarks underscore the escalating political tension in Rivers State ahead of the local government polls.
