The Bauchi State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has suspended two permanent secretaries and one chief executive officer (accounts) for serious misconduct, effective from September 27, 2024. The decision was made during the commission’s first extraordinary meeting of the year, held on September 30, 2024, at the commission’s conference hall.
During the meeting, the commission reviewed recommendations and supporting documents from the office of the State Head of Civil Service. These documents outlined the allegations against the officers and suggested appropriate disciplinary measures. Following a thorough review, the commission resolved to suspend the officers under section 0331 of the Bauchi State Public Service Regulations. This suspension allows for further investigation into the matter, which is currently being handled by relevant authorities.
The suspended officers include former Accountant General of the State, Sa’idu Abubakar, as well as Danjuma Garba and Bala Ibrahim Sabo, both of whom hold senior positions. Sa’idu Abubakar and Danjuma Garba serve as permanent secretaries, while Bala Ibrahim Sabo holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (Accounts). They are attached to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Ministry of Higher Education, and Ministry of Natural Resources, respectively.
During the session, Abubakar Usman, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, emphasized the importance of strict adherence to public service regulations. He warned civil servants in the state to ensure they follow the rules of engagement in the discharge of their duties, stressing that misconduct will not be tolerated.
Usman also reiterated the commission’s commitment to sanitizing the state civil service, ensuring that only disciplined and ethical individuals are allowed to serve the people of Bauchi. This suspension serves as a stern reminder that the commission is determined to uphold the integrity of the state's civil service.
The suspension of these high ranking officials marks a significant step in the Bauchi State Civil Service Commission’s efforts to maintain discipline and transparency within the public service. As investigations continue, the commission’s actions send a clear message that misconduct will be addressed swiftly and appropriately, regardless of rank or position.
