In a recent statement, ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, has voiced concerns over the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) reduced support for infrastructure development in public universities since the departure of former governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. Sanusi, who served as CBN Governor from 2009 to 2014, was praised for spearheading numerous development projects in higher institutions across Nigeria during his tenure. Osodeke cited various university buildings funded by the CBN under Sanusi's leadership, including notable projects in his own university.Osodeke expressed disappointment that Sanusi's successors, including former governor Godwin Emefiele and current CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, have not continued these initiatives. He questioned the use of funds allocated for community development and social responsibility, emphasizing that these resources should be directed toward university projects. The union urged the current CBN administration to revisit Sanusi's approach and prioritize the development of public universities. According to Osodeke, if Sanusi's legacy had been sustained, Nigerian universities would not be struggling with significant infrastructural deficits today.
