South African singer Tyla has extended an emotional apology to Nigerians, addressing misconceptions that strained her relationship with fans of Nigerian artist Ayra Starr.
Tyla revealed that she grew up with the belief that Nigerians disliked her, but recent experiences have shown her otherwise.
"In the beginning, my streams were soaring, but certain bloggers stirred tension between my fans and those of my Nigerian sister Ayra Starr," Tyla shared.
She explained that false narratives created the illusion of a rivalry, leading to a decline in her streams and a deeper realization of the support Nigerians had always given her.
"My fellow South Africans tried to make me feel Nigerian numbers didn’t matter," she admitted, noting how the strained relationship negatively impacted her career.
Tyla acknowledged the powerful influence of Nigerian listeners, expressing gratitude for their previous support.
In her plea for reconciliation, Tyla clarified, "Please, Nigerians, I hope you understand there is no competition between my sister Ayra Starr and me."
She called for harmony and collaboration between South African and Nigerian music communities.
Concluding her statement, Tyla emphasized the need for unity, saying simply, "Peace 🕊️."
