Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa recently addressed the ongoing Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) investigation into an alleged N1.3 trillion fraud during his tenure. Okowa described the accusations as "malicious and politically motivated," suggesting they were designed to mislead the public. He also criticized the claim of embezzling such a large amount, pointing out that it would imply taking an unreasonable N16 to N20 billion monthly over eight years.
Okowa said he welcomed the EFCC’s inquiry, asserting his commitment to transparency. Unlike others who seek court orders to halt investigations, he emphasized that he would not obstruct the process. Okowa expressed confidence that the investigators would recognize the discrepancy between the petition and factual information.
Speaking to traditional rulers led by Maj.-Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (retd.), the Orodje of Okpe, Okowa thanked them for their support, noting that he knew the individuals responsible for the allegations but was undeterred. He reaffirmed his dedication to Delta State’s development, emphasizing his achievements and the backing of the people. The traditional rulers voiced their support for Okowa and expressed hope for a fair resolution in his favor.
