In a significant victory against crime, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully neutralized a notorious kidnapping kingpin, Ubong Effiong Archibong, infamously known as ‘Condiment.’ This operation, which marks a critical win in the fight against organized crime in the region, was carried out in collaboration with local law enforcement at Archibong's hideout in Uyanga Community, Cross River State.
According to a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, the operation culminated in a fierce gun battle between the police operatives and the Bling Bling Marine Strike Force, a criminal gang led by ‘Condiment.’ The notorious criminal was eventually neutralized, with law enforcement recovering a G3 rifle and several rounds of ammunition at the scene.
‘Condiment’ had long been on the radar of law enforcement agencies for his involvement in numerous high-profile kidnappings and murders across the region. Among his most infamous crimes was the kidnapping of High Court Judge Joy Unwana, which tragically resulted in the murder of her police orderly, Inspector ThankGod Edet, in 2023. This incident alone had sent shockwaves through the state, intensifying the manhunt for Archibong and his gang.
Additionally, Archibong was linked to the gruesome murder of the CEO of Emem and Sons Nig. Ltd, alongside the kidnapping of the company’s sales representative and a pharmacist known as Joemel. His reign of terror had caused widespread fear, earning him the notorious reputation he carried until his demise.
The neutralization of Ubong Effiong Archibong, alias ‘Condiment,’ serves as a strong message to criminal elements within and beyond Akwa Ibom State. The Akwa Ibom Police Command’s swift and decisive action underscores its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
ASP Timfon John, in her statement, reiterated the Command's dedication to eradicating criminal activities in the state. She also urged the public to continue supporting the police by providing timely information that could assist in maintaining law and order.
