The Nigerian Armed Forces, particularly the Air Force, recently carried out significant airstrikes targeting terrorist groups in Borno State, leading to the elimination of over 70 extremists at Kwallaram and additional fatalities at Arainna Ciki. According to Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, these operations are part of an intensified offensive strategy aimed at dislodging terrorists and insurgents throughout Nigeria.
In the broader campaign, Nigerian troops have neutralized 169 terrorists, arrested 641 individuals, including oil theft suspects, and rescued 181 kidnapped individuals. The forces also seized a large cache of weapons and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, fabricated firearms, and explosives. In the Niger Delta region, troops disrupted illegal oil operations, dismantling 83 illegal refineries, seizing substantial quantities of crude oil and illegally refined products, and destroying makeshift equipment used in these activities.
This ongoing military action has reportedly weakened the operational strength of terrorist groups, leading to a desperate recruitment drive by ISWAP on social media.
