Super Eagles’ star player, Ahmed Musa, has rejoined Kano Pillars on a short-term contract ahead of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Alongside his compatriot, Shehu Abdullahi, Musa returned to the country to bolster Pillars' squad as they prepare for upcoming matches.
The duo was spotted during a training session with the former NPFL champions on Thursday, October 3rd, as the team geared up for their match-day five clash against Sunshine Stars.
Kano Pillars made the announcement on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, sharing pictures and naming other key players in the squad.
Musa, 31, is set to rejoin the club for the third time, having previously played for Kano Pillars between the 2009/10 and 2021 seasons.
His remarkable career has seen him play across Europe and the Middle East, including stints at Leicester City, CSKA Moscow, and Al Nassr. Musa ended his contract with Turkish side Sivasspor in February and has now returned to the NPFL as a free agent.
Shehu Abdullahi, a defensive midfielder, is making his second appearance for Pillars, having last played for them in 2012. He has been without a club since January 2023 but is eligible to join Kano Pillars as a free agent.
NPFL head of competitions, Sunday Obaseki, confirmed that both players are eligible for registration despite the summer transfer window being closed.
"Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem," Obaseki assured.
Musa first rose to prominence during his initial spell with Kano Pillars in 2009, when he was the NPFL’s top scorer with 18 goals.
His stellar performances paved the way for his move to Europe, starting with Dutch side VVV Venlo. Rangers International, the reigning NPFL champions, reportedly showed interest in acquiring Musa before his decision to return to Pillars.
Musa and Abdullahi's return is expected to boost Kano Pillars' performance in the ongoing NPFL season as they aim to reclaim their position at the top of Nigerian football.
