A Nigerian lawyer, Ilavbare Rahmatulai, has shared her views on the concept of submission in marriage, asserting that a woman cannot be submissive if she is neglected or disrespected by her spouse.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, Rahmatulai emphasized that emotional and material deprivation make it impossible for women to exhibit submission in relationships.
"A married woman cannot be submissive if she is married to a disrespectful and inconsiderate man, is the unappreciated breadwinner, or is $ex starved," she wrote.
According to her, submission is a natural response for women in marriages where they are treated with respect and care, regardless of their partner’s financial status.
Rahmatulai, a Muslim, mother, grandmother, attorney, and Chartered Mediator and Conciliator, has been vocal about the dynamics of marital relationships, often sharing insights drawn from both her professional and personal life.
Her recent post has sparked discussions on social media about the expectations placed on women in marriage and the importance of mutual respect between partners.
