A passenger plane with 62 people crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, killing all onboard on Friday.
The plane was flying from Cascavel in the southern state of Paraná to the main airport in São Paulo city when it came down in the town of Vinhedo, the Voepass airline is quoted as saying.
According to the BBC, Footage circulating on social media shows a plane descending vertically, spiralling as it fell, while authorities said the plane landed in a residential area, but no-one on the ground had been injured
There were 58 passengers and four crew members on the Voepass airline flight when the plane crashed.
Local authorities in Valinhos, near the city of Vinhedo, said everyone on board the Voepass flight that crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo has died.
According to the airline Voepass, the aircraft took off from Cascavel/PR bound for Guarulhos Airport, with 58 passengers and four crew members on board.
Voepass has activated all means to support those involved. There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board,” the airline said.
The President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has held a minute’s silence at an event he was speaking at, after hearing of the crash.
In a post on social media, he said the crash is “very sad. All my solidarity to the families and friends of the victims”.
Officials said only one home in the local condominium complex had been damaged, but that none of the residents were hurt.
Seven firefighting teams were said to be involved in the emergency response.
The Fire Department of São Paulo posts on X, saying: “Aircraft crash, 7 teams involved, so far only this information.”
