A political pressure group in Bauchi State, known as ‘Concerned Citizens of Bauchi State, has publicly declared its support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the Senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial District. The group emphasized the need to encourage the senator to continue providing effective representation for his constituency, urging him to remain steadfast in his role.
During a press conference held on Thursday in Bauchi, the group's Chairperson, Musa Nadabo, addressed journalists and highlighted the growing momentum and political relevance of Senator Shehu Buba. Nadabo noted that the senator, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security and Intelligence, has gained significant popularity as a grassroots politician. According to Nadabo, Buba's increasing influence has become a major concern for Bauchi State Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.
It is pertinent to mention that the governor of Bauchi State does not just see the distinguished Senator as a political opponent, but he has labeled him as a targeted enemy who should be politically crushed or even eliminated, Nadabo claimed during the conference.
He further stressed that the rising prominence of Senator Shehu Buba has created a sense of unease within Governor Bala Mohammed's camp. Nadabo explained that since Buba's election into the Senate in 2023, he has built a strong base of support, particularly among youths and women, who are now calling on him to contest for the Bauchi governorship in 2027.
Although the present Governor is serving his second and final term, the political momentum and support the Senator is gathering continues to send shockwaves across the governor’s camp, where many view him as an emperor in the state, Nadabo remarked.
He concluded by accusing the governor of mismanaging the state's resources, stating that should Senator Shehu Buba become the next governor, it is likely that Bala Mohammed's administration would be subjected to investigations. Nadabo cited the governor's alleged use of state funds on white elephant projects as one of the reasons for growing discontent.
With the 2027 elections approaching, the political landscape in Bauchi is heating up, as key figures like Senator Shehu Buba continue to gather support, potentially setting the stage for a fiercely contested race for the governorship.
